The FDA’s 2026 food facility registration renewal period runs from October 1 through December 31, 2026. Facilities required to register must renew during this window, even if their information has not changed. FDA does not charge a registration or renewal fee.
Who needs to renew?
Domestic and foreign facilities that manufacture, process, pack, or hold food for human or animal consumption in the United States generally must register and renew, unless an exemption applies. Review your facility’s activities and applicable exemptions to determine whether registration is required.
What happens if you miss the deadline?
Food facility registrations must be renewed between October 1 and December 31 of every even-numbered year. A registration not renewed by December 31, 2026, is considered expired. Food offered for import from a foreign facility that is required to register but has not done so may be subject to refusal.
Updating a registration is not the same as renewing it. If you registered or updated facility information before October 1, check whether you must also complete the 2026 renewal.
What should you prepare?
Gather your FDA Industry Systems account credentials and review the facility’s legal name, physical address, contact information, applicable food product categories and other required registration details. Foreign facilities should confirm their U.S. agent information.
FDA requires an acceptable unique facility identifier (UFI) and currently recognizes the DUNS number for this purpose. Dun & Bradstreet assigns and manages these numbers. Check that the facility name and address associated with the DUNS number match the FDA registration.
How to renew your food facility registration
1. Sign in to FDA Industry Systems and open the Food Facility Registration system.
2. Select the biennial registration renewal option and choose the facility registration.
3. Review the information and make any permitted corrections, following the system’s instructions, including its directions for Section 10.
4. Complete the required certification and submit the renewal.
5. Keep the confirmation for your records.
Renewals generally must be submitted electronically unless FDA has granted a waiver allowing submission by mail or fax. Follow the FDA’s current biennial registration renewal guide.
Is there an FDA renewal fee?
No. FDA does not charge a fee to register or renew a food facility registration. A U.S. agent or another third-party service provider may charge separately for its services; those charges are not FDA fees.
Qualified facility attestations
Facilities that are qualified facilities under applicable food safety rules must also submit their qualified facility attestation during the same biennial period. This is a separate submission from food facility registration renewal. Confirm whether it applies to your facility.
Frequently asked questions
Does a recent registration update count as renewal?
No. FDA treats an update and a biennial renewal as different actions.
Will FDA issue a new registration number when I renew?
FDA states that a facility does not receive a new registration number when it renews a current registration.
Does registration mean FDA has approved my facility or products?
No. Registration is not FDA approval of a facility or its products. Other FDA requirements may also apply.
Plan ahead for food exports
For businesses sourcing or shipping food from Thailand to the United States, early coordination among the facility, its U.S. agent and logistics partners can help prevent last-minute discrepancies. Verify DUNS details, confirm account access and retain the renewal confirmation before the deadline.
