In today’s competitive e-commerce landscape, managing logistics efficiently and cost-effectively is crucial for businesses aiming to maintain a competitive edge and operational fluidity. Amazon Warehousing and Distribution (AWD) offers a tailored solution that supports businesses in managing large volumes of inventory with ease and efficiency.

What is Amazon Warehousing and Distribution?
Amazon Warehousing and Distribution (AWD) is a strategic service developed by Amazon to assist businesses in storing bulk inventory economically while ensuring effective distribution across various channels. This service is ideal for e-commerce operations that require a robust system for inventory management without the logistical headaches.
Key Features of AWD
Cost-Effectiveness: AWD provides low-cost bulk storage solutions. The pricing includes inbound FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) placement, which means there are no separate fees for this service, significantly reducing overhead costs associated with inventory management.
Auto-Replenishment: AWD includes an auto-replenishment feature that manages inventory levels automatically. This system ensures that inventory shortages are prevented, maintaining continuous availability of products for fulfillment.

Speed and Reliability: Inventory processed through AWD is quickly made visible within 2 to 4 days of arrival, and it is replenished to FBA within 10 to 14 days from the replenishment request. This rapid process supports ongoing sales and customer satisfaction without delays.
Multi-Channel Distribution: Besides replenishing inventory for Amazon sales, AWD also supports distribution to other sales channels. This capability allows businesses to use a single inventory pool to fulfill orders from various sales avenues, thus enhancing market reach and efficiency.
Pricing and Rates
AWD offers a structured pricing model that starts on March 1, 2024, with two distinct pricing tiers:
- Base Rate: Applied for shipments sent to AWD using third-party transportation.
- Integrated Rate: Offers lower rates for those utilizing Amazon Global Logistics or Partnered Carrier program services.

Specific charges under the integrated rate are as follows:
- Storage Fee: As low as $0.36 per cubic foot per month.
- Processing Fee: Reduced to $2.13 per box.
- Transportation Fee: A nominal $0.85 per cubic foot.
Eligibility and Product Specifications
AWD supports a wide array of product categories such as Apparel, Consumer Electronics, Books, and more, catering to standard-size ASINs (Amazon Standard Identification Numbers). It’s important to note that certain items like perishables, high-value goods, and oversized products are not eligible for AWD. Compliance with FBA guidelines, including barcode requirements and listing validity, is necessary to avoid delays and complications in the fulfillment process.
