4 Easy Ways to Clean Wooden Cutting Boards and Prevent Mold Growth

The wooden cutting boards we use in cooking can accumulate stubborn stains and unpleasant odors if not cleaned properly. These residues and odors trapped in the grooves of our boards can ferment and eventually lead to mold growth.

If left unattended, these mold spores can contaminate our food, potentially causing illness. Here are 4 methods for cleaning wooden cutting boards to prevent mold growth:

1.Hot Water Rinse

Simply pour hot water over the cutting board and let it sit for 1 minute. Then, rinse with clean water and dry in sunlight or in a well-ventilated area, at least once a week.

2.Citrus Scrub

Use a lemon or lime to scrub stains on the cutting board. The acidity helps loosen residues. For stubborn stains, gently scrape with a knife, then wash with soap and water. Dry thoroughly in sunlight or a well-ventilated area

3.Vinegar Soak

Wipe the cutting board with white vinegar and let sit. Use a knife to scrape off stubborn residues. Wash with soap and water, then dry in sunlight or a breezy area.

4.Baking Soda Scrub

Mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with approximately 800 ml of water until well combined. Pour the mixture onto the cutting board and use a brush or knife to scrub away the residues. Rinse with clean water and dry in sunlight or in a well-ventilated area.

By regularly cleaning and maintaining your wooden cutting boards using these methods, you can ensure that they remain clean, odor-free, and free from mold growth, keeping your food safe and your kitchen hygienic.
